Throughout Norman’s career, has received many awards and honors for journalistic excellence. Recently, he was awarded an Emmy Award for his contribution to NBC 5’s coverage of the Chicago Auto Show special. As if that is not enough, honored with two prestigious awards including a national Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, and the 1992 to 1993 Associated Press Award for “Best Investigative Reporting.”

However, he was a very important part of NBC 5’s coverage of the Beirut hostage crisis where he provided comprehensive reports on the fate of St. Charles and Geneva residents held captive by terrorists. His efforts in providing the reports were therefore honored with a 1986 Emmy Award.
Norman’s other honors include the Wilbur Award given in 1987 by the Religious Public Relations Council. He was awarded for “Giving God The Glory,” a documentary tracing Chicago’s gospel history. Additionally, He received a Television News Director and International Radio Award for his live coverage of the shooting of a divorce court judge and an attorney in a Daley Center courtroom. Moreover, his documentary on the plight of poor children won a 1978 School Bell Award from the National Association of Educators. In addition, he covered a fatal air balloon crash in 1975 and won North Carolina’s RTNDA Award.
